The Lords and Lady Pentortoise

Problem: That’s right, Lords. Lady Pentortoise is a lady of exceptionally good breeding and taste, however, her tastes are quite wide ranging and one man just wasn’t enough to suit her needs. She has three husbands, but before your minds start swimming in the gutters, bear in mind that Lady Pentortoise is absolutely uninterested in having children until its absolutely required of her in order to keep the Pentortoise line alive. Her husbands serve far more important purposes: one governs her estates, one governs her books and accounts, and the last one governs her vested interests. You see, Lady Pentortoise is the only polygamist in Gurgle (The church of Gurgle-on is modestly opposed to such, but she gain fervent support from the Church of Tempestia and Tidolon to balance things out), and it’s tolerated by the people because she is one of the most active benefactor’s in keeping the people of Gurgle fed. She has in her employ an entire cadre of wizards dedicated to conjuring food, and twice as many servents responsible for distributing that food to the public. Additionally, she has the largest fleet of diplomatic ships, and her house directly governs 1/3 of Gurgle’s military forces. She has done much for the city, and was wont to make public appearances quite often, joining her subjects in food distribution, and even attending a few diplomatic journey’s in person. However, lately, she has shut herself indoors and it has been a month since any have reported seeing Lady Pentortoise. Most are worried over her health, while some speculate that she’s finally decided to get with child. Rumors fly, but truth is in short supply…

Solution: At first Eidel and Miles managed to gain access into the Pentortoise by the guise of looking for work. They found the Lady laying comatose hidden away in a tiny room. Eidel left to see if they could find help for her condition outside with little luck. While Miles stayed in the manor and investigated with the Lords. Between the stories Charlie, Fred, and Urgle gave him, Miles discovered that Charlie, the Estate Husband, was to blame for her condition. So he tracked him down and learned why Charlie cursed his wife and how to save her. Once she awoke from her nightmarish sleep, Lady Pentortoise offered Miles a position as her fourth husband, but he politely declined. She rewarded him with her Great-Grandfather’s bow.
